Heritage Spirit Award
In Memory of Dave Heritage
Many people have worked diligently to establish the Minnesota Service Cooperatives' Knowledge Bowl Program. It is in honor of one of these people that the "Heritage Spirit Award" was named.
Dave Heritage was one of the original proponents of the program. Since 1979, Dave was instrumental in the program's growth, particularly in the north and east regions of the state, and its success. Mr. Heritage passed away in September of 1993. It was in memory of Dave's contributions that the first "Heritage Spirit Award" was presented at the 1994 state competition.
Definition of Team Spirit: The qualities and conduct becoming to a champion competitor.
- Attitude toward all members of the team.
- Attitude toward other teams.
- Attitude toward readers, judges, pocket box operators.
- Attitude toward the team advisors.
- Attitude in winning/losing; accepting victory or defeat graciously.
- In general, overall conduct.
Judging Process
The reader, judge and pocket box operator will meet briefly after each round to choose one team best representing a positive spirt according to the criteria. The reader, judge and pocket box operator will reach a consensus and write reasons why the particular team was chosen during that round. The reasons must be specific.
It is the judge's responsibility to make sure that the selection process occurs after each round and the form is completed in each competition room. Immediately following the fifth oral round, the judge should deliver the voting form to the Directors Room (Room 221) KB Headquarters.
